1. Who We Are & What This Policy Covers
Welcome, and thanks for taking a moment to read this. We know privacy policies are usually a wall of legal text — so we've tried to write this one like a human talking to another human.
reeldown ("reeldown," "we," "us," or "our") is a free, browser-based tool that helps you save publicly available videos and media from the social platforms you already use. This Privacy Policy explains what information we do (and mostly don't) collect when you visit reeldown, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.
By using reeldown, you're agreeing to the practices described here. If something doesn't sit right with you, please don't use the site — and feel free to email us at reeldoan@gmail.com with any questions first.
2. The Big Promise — We Never Store Your Videos
This is the part most people care about, so we're putting it right at the top.
reeldown does not store, cache, host, or keep a copy of any video, photo, or audio you download. We are not a video library and we never become the owner of your file.
Here's what actually happens when you paste a link:
• You give us a public link to a piece of media.
• reeldown asks the platform's own servers (its CDN) for the direct, public download address of that file.
• We hand that direct address straight to your browser.
• The file then travels directly from the social network to your device — it never passes through our servers and is never copied onto them.
In short, we're a helpful middle-man that simply finds the door and points you to it. We don't walk through it, and we don't keep what's behind it. That means your downloads stay 100% between you and the original platform.
3. Information We Collect (Log Files)
reeldown follows a standard procedure of using log files. Like nearly every website on the internet, our hosting servers automatically record certain non-personal technical information whenever a page is requested. These log files may include:
• Your Internet Protocol (IP) address
• Browser type and version
• Internet Service Provider (ISP)
• Date and time stamp of your visit
• Referring/exit pages
• Possibly the number of clicks
None of this is linked to any information that personally identifies you. We use it only to analyze trends, keep the service running smoothly, diagnose technical problems, protect against abuse, and understand broad usage patterns. We do not require you to create an account, and we never ask for your name, address, or payment details to use the core downloader.
4. Cookies & Web Beacons
Like most sites, reeldown may use "cookies" — small text files stored in your browser. Cookies help remember your preferences (such as your selected quality or theme) and improve your overall experience so the site feels faster and more convenient on your next visit.
You are completely in control. You can choose to disable cookies through your individual browser settings at any time. Just keep in mind that turning them off may affect how some convenience features behave. For more general information about managing cookies, you can check the help section of your specific web browser.
5. Google AdSense & the DoubleClick DART Cookie
reeldown is supported by advertising, and Google, as a third-party vendor, may use cookies to serve ads on our site.
Google's use of the DART cookie enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to reeldown and other sites on the internet. This helps keep the ads relevant rather than random.
You have the right to opt out: users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google Ad and Content Network Privacy Policy at the following URL — https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
You can also manage your personal ad preferences at any time through Google Ads Settings: https://adssettings.google.com
6. Our Advertising Partners
Some advertisers on our site may use cookies and web beacons. Our advertising partners are listed below, and each has its own privacy policy for how they handle user data. For easier access, we have linked the most relevant one here:
• Google — https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
These third-party ad servers or ad networks use technology in the advertisements and links that appear on reeldown and are sent directly to your browser. They automatically receive your IP address when this happens. These technologies are used to measure the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns and to personalize the content you see.
Please note that reeldown has no access to or control over these cookies that are used by third-party advertisers. You should consult the respective privacy policies of these third-party ad servers for more detailed information on their practices, as well as for instructions about how to opt out of certain options.
7. Third-Party Privacy Policies
reeldown's Privacy Policy does not apply to other advertisers or websites. We therefore encourage you to consult the respective Privacy Policies of these third-party ad servers for more detailed information. It may include their practices and instructions about how to opt out of certain options.
You can choose to disable cookies through your individual browser options. To know more detailed information about cookie management with specific web browsers, it can be found at the browsers' respective websites.
8. GDPR Data Protection Rights (EU & UK Users)
We want to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, you are entitled to the following under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
• The right to access — You can request copies of any personal data we may hold about you.
• The right to rectification — You can ask us to correct information you believe is inaccurate or complete information you believe is incomplete.
• The right to erasure — You can request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
• The right to restrict processing — You can request that we restrict the processing of your data, under certain conditions.
• The right to object to processing — You can object to our processing of your data, under certain conditions.
• The right to data portability — You can request that we transfer the data we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.
Because reeldown collects almost no personal data and stores nothing permanently, most of these rights are satisfied by default. If you'd still like to make a request, email us at reeldoan@gmail.com and we'll respond within a reasonable timeframe (typically 24–48 hours).
9. CCPA Privacy Rights (California Users)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you specific rights regarding your personal information. Under the CCPA, you have the right to:
• Request that a business disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal data it has collected about you.
• Request that a business delete any personal data about you that it has collected.
• Request that a business that sells your personal data not sell it.
reeldown does not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to anyone — full stop. If you would like to exercise any of these rights, please contact us at reeldoan@gmail.com.
10. Children's Information (COPPA)
Protecting children online is something we take seriously.
reeldown does not knowingly collect any Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 13. In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), our service is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children.
If you are a parent or guardian and you believe that your child has provided us with any kind of personal information, please contact us immediately at reeldoan@gmail.com, and we will do our best to promptly remove such information from our records.
11. How We Keep Your Data Safe
We implement sensible, industry-standard safeguards to protect the limited information that passes through reeldown, including:
• HTTPS/SSL encryption across the entire site, so your connection is private
• A "no permanent storage" design that means there's very little data to protect in the first place
• Routine monitoring to guard against abuse and security threats
That said, no method of transmission over the internet is ever 100% secure, and we can't promise absolute security. We do, however, promise to keep our footprint small and our practices honest.
12. Consent & Updates to This Policy
By using our website, you hereby consent to our Privacy Policy and agree to its terms.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the service, the law, or advertising standards evolve. When we make a meaningful change, we'll revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to glance over it now and then — your continued use of reeldown after any changes means you accept the updated policy.
